The writer of "Little girls are wiser than Men" story is LEO TOLSTOY….
my favorite writer ever…I'm crazy about him and about his stories and novels…I have a book for his short stories and I allowed my niece to read these stories. Then, I asked her to tell me in brief what she learned from his short stories? What the lessons she found in each one??
I was happy that she liked the stories and she learned the lessons about each one. Maybe one was long and difficult for her and she couldn’t understand the lesson…so I explained for her what he meant there…
most of his stories contain some expressions that describe the way of life in Russia… so I told my niece about that without any details…
All his stories have great lessons and aim to teach people doing good and avoiding evil.

He lived from 1828 to 1910. He was Russian and owned a lot of lands because he was from aristocratic family "his mother was a princess and his father was a lord". He felt he ought to give his lands away for charity and for poor people because he believed in God. He lived a simple life. He taught poor children to read. He also worked hard in his own fields and even made his own bread.
Most people know Tolstoy because he wrote a long story called "War and Peace". This often called "The Greatest Novels and Plays". In addition, there is another famous novel for him called "Anna Karenina". He also wrote very wonderful short stories.
These stories give a very true picture of the life of the poor people in the world, from the fifty to one hundred years age. In each story, we can see that Leo Tolstoy is not telling a story to amuse or interest us. He is also teaching lessons. Each of these lessons can put in a few words. They all tell us something which is important and which will always be true.

I loved his modesty and simple life despite he was one of the Nobles. I found out later that he had a copy of Holy Qu'ran in his house.
Also once, I was reading life story of Imam Mohammed Abdou …and then they mentioned that he "the Imam" sent a letter to Leo Tolstoy at that time….I can't remember why?!!, but I think there was something wrong between Leo and Church….and I think the Church expelled Leo Tolstoy….!!!
I think I should go and search about this case….
Anyhow,…that will never affect that he is one of the greatest writers of this world.
I really love him so much….he wasn't HANDSOME, but he sure had beautiful SOUL and MIND. "Sometimes, we love and I mean LOVE someone who hasn't that EXTERNAL beauty, but his/her INTERNAL beauty is more dazzling and more attractive"
There are so many other writers I loved their books and stories such as CHARLES DICKENS….and there are who I found them through their wonderful stories.

Jeff, I am reading dostoevsky crime and punshment now (well for more than a month now, I just stopped reading dont know why :p )
I like the story, and how he expresses the charchters .. but the english is just too difficult .. it takes me long to finish one page :(

Yeah…he is gorgeous man…that beard gave him a more gravity. I read his life story in different sites, magazines and newspapers
I think he was good and had beautiful soul and mind…he tried to be good and help poor people.
I loved his short stories…. But I didn't buy his long novels yet. I waited for books fair of Muscat and prepared a list of what books I want, but mostly I end up with half or less what I wish for. :(
But… I want to buy all his books and stories…. By God willing "Insha allah" I will buy them next Books Fair :)
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky is still in my list... my friend told me it's a wonderful novel and I will buy it for sure :)
In that site and even other sites, you can get all these writers' stories…but somehow I don't enjoy reading from computer…I ADORE holding REAL book and lay down on the ground…touch the words and papers with that unique smell of papers …and read it deeply…
It's REAL pleasure for me with REAL books… it give me more REAL feelings about the events.
I bought different stories last year…I read "Oliver Twist", "David Copperfield" and " A Tale of Two cities" for CHARLES DICKENS …. all of them touched me…I was happy for Oliver and David for finding their happiness with their own families and loved ones….but I don't know why Carton did that… he knew that he will die instead of Darney…but he wanted that ..he wanted Lucie and Darney to remember him as savior for their family and to name their child after him. That's weird, but touched me so bad. :'(
This story gave me more real view about people and historical environment in France during the revolution and closer image to "Guillotine"…I liked some clever points through lines such as:
((The hunger of the guillotine could not be satisfied. Liberty, Equality, Fraternity – or Death; and of these four, Death was by far the commonest and the most easily obtained))
"Jane Eyre" is a beautiful story…. I watched the movie and then I knew that was originally a novel for Charlotte Bronte …so I bought the book.
Anyway, I read different stories…some were really excellent and some were not that good.
Nash.......that's wonderful...as a child i prefer to go out and play with dirt.... but i love short stories more :D

A friend suggested the arabic version of Fydor's books .. I tried looking for them but I couldnt ..
we should go to the fair togther, I am sure we'd enjoy it :)

Oh…I guess in book fair you can find it in Arabic…I should prepare my list from now and even reserve amount of money too …but sometimes…I compel to send someone to search for what I need in the book Fair…if my family can't find a time to go during the fair. I like when the fair is for women only. Much easier…I went once alone without any female companion…it wasn't easy to be alone and especially if you have heavy bags full with books…I remember I put my bags with Omani young man till I search for my other books in the list. He was nice young man and kept it with him till I came. I took long time to find my books…I spent long time in that huge fair and I was exhausted . So, I guess I should find a companion. LOL…but I'm not sure about that.
You and I…Hmmm…I don't know sister…let me see and if there is a possibility…we will meet there. ;)
