I have this idea of being a vegetarian for a long time. I really think about this seriously….and I'm not kidding!

I remember when I stopped eating red meat few years ago. That was because I found horrible pictures of Palestinian people tore apart by Israeli bombings. I got fever at that time for more than 2 weeks and I felt sick when I see any red meat…I hated meats and I linked that with that horrible pictures.
However, I healed, forgot and went back to my ordinary life.

Then, I found a new study about cancers according to countries and peoples. They found that all kinds of cancer are widespread in "England" (where people eat all kinds of meat…and plenty of meats)….
While they found that cancers are almost none in another country… poor Muslim country called "Albania" (where people eat only vegetables and fruits…well, because they are poor and eat only what they plant in their lands). Being poor can be good thing and healthy too.
So, eating meats is not good and healthy as eating fruits and vegetables.

Then, I watched with my brother a program about "the strangest foods in the world". It was awful indeed. The ugliest one was about Ducks' Eggs…this kind of food serves in eastern Asian and I guess in Thailand… the idea of this food is so horrible. They collect the ducks' eggs and put them in a good place for incubation and to let the embryos grow in that eggs…after 3 weeks or so they check all eggs and if the embryos grew well and alive in eggs…they cook them in boiling water!!!

That shocked me and my brother…Oh My Goodness…that was sick and inhuman way to torture a living creatures… how can they let babies grow and be a living creatures and then boil them!!! Can you imagine a human embryos boiling in water for you to eat them!!!!

That was terrible and my brother stopped eating eggs since that day!

Do you know what?! In eastern countries, they eat anything, everything… I watched once program about foods…then, a girl from there said and laughed: we eat everything…we don't have anything forbidden!!!

Is it really about forbidden things in religions??!!

I don't think so…as humans I think we agree that there is limits for things… how can they let ducks' embryos grow and be living creatures and then boil and kill them…

"I couldn’t remember the name of this feral food…I guess something like BOOOT"

Recently, my brother told me about new channel he found called "Supreme Master Television". I watched this new channel and I liked what they promote for…be vegetarian and not cannibals. They even broadcast some horror clips of killing some animals…not really killing, but torturing…that horrified me more and make me more serious about vegetarian issue.

Hmmm…I should go step by step to achieve that… maybe I won't be vegetarian 100%...I will try to be more Vegetarian.

Oh…the new TV channel is about lady called "Ching Hai"…I thought they are saying "Changhai" at first time I heard the word…but later I found out that was the name of lady…

I didn't care about this lady and her blah blah…I only liked the idea of vegetarian for long time. Besides, I watched their channel for a bit of time and only to see more about vegetarian ideas and not to listen to this woman. My impression about her is that she wants to be like a prophet or Saint or something religious, spiritual, holy for people (as I saw, she trying to be like JESUS). So,… Yeah…. that's crap and for that I didn't watch the channel more than few times.

Fact: digesting Fruits and vegetables can take from 30 to 40 minutes or less….while digesting heavy meals like meat can take more than 3 hours!!! So, you should not eat fruits before or after meals directly otherwise that will cause fermentation of fruits in your stomach…. Eat fruits or drink water 30 minutes al least before meals.

Anyway…to be more realistic…I won't be vegetarian…but 1/2 vegetarian. I love seafoods and I can't leave it!!! I love white meats, so more seafoods and white meats … and less of red meats. More vegetables and fruits too. As Muslims, we have limitations with eating animals… for examples: the SM TV said: don't eat your dog!!!! WHAT?!!! Who will eat dogs?!! Dogs, pigs, snakes, frogs, lizards, insects and many more of unexpected creatures.. Yucky!

LOL…I have a picture of roasted dogs market in some of the far eastern countries… my brother said: Yuck! While I said: that's nasty!!

What do you think about that?

What do you think about being a meat eater?!

I read an interesting article about this issue….it's in Arabic…so let me see if I can translate it in English.

Ooooh, Weird Foods! One of my favorite subjects!

Yes, the Orientals seem to eat almost anything! My favorite funny Chinese food is Bird's Nest Soup! Some birds build their nests out of straw. They take the straw and they put their spit on it and it sticks together and makes a strong nest.

The Chinese go deep into caves and find these nests high up on the walls made by a certain bird. They take them home and--they boil the nests and make soup. Bird's Nest Soup: delicious, hmmm? All that good bird spit. Now my question is: Who in the world THOUGHT of that first? Why would anyone ever think of boiling a bird's nest and making soup? Did they run out of eggs and they were still hungry or what?

My favorite Japanese funny food is: Fugu. It's a poisonous fish. If you eat the liver, you will die. But if you eat the meat that is CLOSE to the liver, but not TOO close, your lips get a nice, tingly feeling. Of course, if the cook makes a mistake or the poison from that particular fish is too strong, you die. It paralyzes your muscles--you are wide awake but you can't breathe, so you watch yourself suffocate slowly to death!

What fun, right? Every year a certain number of Japanese die from eating these fish. But they pay a lot of money to eat this wonderful food! Aren't you jealous?

But one thing the orientals DON'T even TOUCH is: Milk. Or anything made from milk. So they don't eat cheese either. They say drinking milk makes you stink. I say: First, at least it's not bird spit. Second, at least you don't DIE!

On the other hand, the Kirghiz LOVE milk. The Kirghiz are a Muslim people that are related to the Chinese. They used to be in the Soviet Union, but they have their own country now: Kirghizia or Kyrghyzia.

The Kirghiz love milk, but not cow's milk. They only drink HORSE's milk. But they don't drink it straight from the horse. No, they let it sit for many, many days until it ferments and gets full of alcohol. So, they drink a kind of wine, but instead of being from grape juice, it's from horse's milk!

How can they do that if they are Muslim? Don't ask me; ask them! I believe they think that since it's milk, somehow it doesn't count. But personally, I think they just LOVE it, that's why.

My favorite strange food from the Americas is: Tapioca. Tapioca is used to make pudding and it's quite popular even among Europeans now. It comes from a South American root and the Indians in South America eat it all the time...

"So what?", you may say. "Lots of people eat various roots!"

Yes, but the tapioca root is Deadly Poison. If you eat it you die. If you boil it and eat it, you still die. If you crush it and boil it and squeeze it through a cloth, you STILL die. If you crush it and boil it and squeeze it through a cloth two or three times, you STILL die.

But...if you do that twenty or thirty times, all the poison is gone and it's very nourishing. And delicious!

Now, you tell me...how many people had to die before the Indians discovered the right way to crush it and boil it and squeeze it the right number of times? And what person decided to try all these different ways and times while people were dying right and left? "Okay, John died, let's try it again a different way. Who wants to be next?"

Yes, weird foods are very interesting!

    I am also 1/2 vegetarian
I don't like red eat, except "Kebda eskandarani" (= Fried Liver)

It know it seems disgusting in some countries.. but eating Fried Liver is so great.

I love also Shawarma and i know how to make it delicious.

in my opinion, vegetables are more healthful than meat.

    Hi Sama dear,
Very interesting articles, I love foods too and being a vegetarian is good. I prefer fish and vegetables to red meat. But having red meat once a while is okay.
I have heard of people in Philippine eating those special eggs, and they eat dogs too. To each its own.
Sama... come and visit Malaysia... we'll treat you to some good hospitality and lovely foods...yummy.
    Take care...

personaly, I am not very adventrous when it comes to food.. I just eat what I know .. I dont experement :p

and yah, you have to use whatever allah gave us to eat .. but we have to balance it well ..

Jeff, my uncle told me about those muslims close to russia who drink vodka and they say its ok .. its not alchol its vodka! and when he visited them, after prayers they brought dancers (note this is the presence of the Imama! )

Subhan allah, I guess its our fault because we dont educate them about what Islam preaches

    Waahahahaha….Jeff… you are kidding right!

Bird's Nest Soup and birds' spits!!!!!!!!

I never ever heard something like that. They are crazy!

Delicious!!! You are crazy too :D

LOL…Fugu…I guess I heard about this one. If the chef did one mistake that will cost you….your life!! once some people died because of this strange food. If it's poisonous fish who wants to eat it. Freaks!

Yeah…GREAT FUN :D… if I'm an idiot to eat such thing.

LOL……..REALLY….NOOOO… Milk is COOL…Yeah, I won't die or eat spits.
Oh My Goodness….new thing too…I watched once people of Mongolia…they made wine of rice…and that wasn't new thing to know. But, Here…they are Muslims… WEIRD!
You know what Jeff… it 's so sad that people who are muslims in far far countries and palces know little pit about islam or teachings of islam. I watched once a program about them…they admitted that they know little about Islam. So, some do wrong things unintentionally. Hope we can reach them and teach them the real teachings of islam.

You are really encyclopedia Jeff… LOL ..so it's Tapioca huh.

Hmmmm….I should watch them do that ….crushing, boiling and squeezing 100s of times to eat this. :D

LOL…yeah…but the good question is WHY they insisted to eat it in the first place as long as they knew it's deadly?!!!

    Great Comment JEFF….THANKS :)

Abdou Basha: Hmmmm…. I'm just planning to be….but in Eid maybe I will break my plan when I see that MASHWA and MASHAKEEK….LOL…. Yummy.
You know what….I hate Livers… no good even thought they say it's good for health.

A.Adam: Thanks DEAR……. you are the BEST :)

    Ammoontie: Hi sweetheart….
Yes, I mean here we should take more fruits and vegetables and less of RED meats…while seafood is great and Yummy. My brother went last year to Thailand and he loved the fruits of that country….besides, he couldn’t trust to eat any thing more than vegetables and fruits….

Malaysia is sweet country and can be trusted more than other countries.

But wait…you are in Malaysia!!! Or Bahrain!!!! Sorry …I'm confuse now.

    Arabian Princess:
Trust me….it's possible…anything possible these days.

I don't trust any food I found no matter what…I prefer to know who cook that and then decide if I can try to eat or not…usually I don't eat any food I don't trust it.
Oh yes Arby…as I said… they know nothing about Islam and do wrong and forbidden things and think it's Okay!!

my relatives on my mom's side of the family tried to make me eat it. i think i had the same problem at the time i heard it was bird spit. but for the sake of health, I am now taking it regularly.

btw, i don't buy the super-expensive kind like old people do. the ready-to-drink kind at the stores are pretty affordable. (e.g. www.geocities.jp/hongkong_bird_nest/index_e.htm)
