| Seven Pillars Of Wisdom
A friend of mine in Saudi Arabia told me about this book. She was excited because he mentioned her town in the book and her town appeared in the maps too. She urged me to buy a copy of this book. So, I did!
Well, I wasn't that excited as her in the beginning (as he didn't mention OMAN), but I became so excited that I read the book many times.
First, I was taking by the story…the characters and what happened to each one or the description of places and peoples. My imagination worked very well that I imagined everything, put myself "as usual" in the story…watch the characters, and infect by events…etc.
It's really interesting book and take you into historical era that effected our area.
There are some points touched me while I was reading the book. The writer who is Thomas Edward Lawrence was mysterious character. I felt he was desperate and unhappy for his family life as he was "illegal" child for his parents. In addition, I think he loved the Arabian life and wanted to stay and forgot his "mission". He was professional swindler and managed to deceive Arabs. He said in the book that he hates his deceit and he wanted to stop this circle of deception, but he was already involved.
Now, that was my feeling about him and his role in all that events. In a point, I felt he turned to be ugly and monster as he killed one of the boys…there was 2 boys, one died and the other one injured badly later and for that Lawrence killed him without any regret!! No….he enjoyed killing!….That was ugly!!!
On the other hand, He described the "Athan" in the last chapter as he heard the caller of the dawn prayer in Damascus called people for praying with tender and sweet voice. That –as he said- touched him and that made him feel lonelier.
However …the most IMPORTANT and SERIOUS text in the books was this:
((Here he says that Britain declared different promises for different groups. A- For Shareif Hussein … B- For the Allies … C- For Arabian Committee in Cairo … D- For Lord Rothschild, which was new in its meaning…as they promised his fellows Jews something suspicious in Palestine.))
"Do you know Rothschild Family?!… YES…I do!.
I watched once a documentary film about this wealthy family.
How they started!??.
They were 5 brothers separated and each one settled down and started his business in one of the main countries in Europe. Each one of them controlled the biggest trades of each country. England, France,…etc.
I really admired them…Do you know why?!…
Because they knew how they can rule and control the societies of Europe countries. They are not aristocratic, but still have power in the nobility.
Who is in England tried to make a relationship by marriage with the royal family. They wanted Prince Charles to marry one of their daughters. Well, he was lucky man to survive and to marry Lady Diana.
Anyways, they are very united family despite any differences or disagreements. That's what make them still big and still have power even thought some of them died tragically, Drugs or committing suicide."
Well, as you can see…they achieved their promise for that Lord and Palestine fell into devils' hands. But, is he really didn't know anything that promise?!!
Was he good or bad man and forced to be spy and dirty agent?!!.
I found 2 articles about him by Dr. Ahmed Al Qadeedi in local newspaper year ago… about his role in "Afghanistan"!!??........believe it or not……he went there secretly and he disguised to do his new Foxy mission.
(I still have those papers!)
"Laurence Of Arabia was a spy in Afghanistan in 1926 according to French intelligence. There are lots of details about his mission there and how he did that to serve British interests. He changed his name twice and went there to set fire of revolution and disobedience against the (infidel) king. WHY? Because the king opened his door for Russia and France and that worried British and their own interests. The king was interested in western culture and he could speak French. He sent his son to Paris to study in French school and he brought experts from Paris to train his army. He wanted to make his country a modern country. The religious tribes weren't happy and what Laurence did is stirring up their discontent against their king. Yes…he did it…"
was he a hero…No…not in my point of view, but I felt so sorry for him…for his " freakish" life…he used to escape from his "real life" to new life that he tried to adopt, but that didn't work as I assume. So, he stuck into that circle of lying and deceiving. He chose that life of deception or "hit and run".
Poor Fox Man.
He hated this title (Laurence Of Arabia)…I think he was right to hate it…who likes to link to Arabs…who likes to link to us…
We are Arabs… losers
We can't be like him
We can't be wily and heartless
We can't get rid of our stupid
goodness, generosity and favorable judgment.
We had stricken by this compassion and good intentions.
But, what we can do to this nature that God gave it to us…
Thank God for what you gave us!

Lawrence was an interesting and strange character. But I think he was pro-Arab--many of the British in the colonial services were. I think some of the stories he told in "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" were not 100% true.
Did you ever see the old movie, "Lawrence of Arabia"?
In Lawrence of Arabia movie his character was very nice
As usual thay will show the one thay like as an engel
Hmmmmmmmm....could be. even though i liked the book as it can be a historical document for what happened in that time. if you went to my Album, you will see the Maps of that time......see palestine and the areas before that dirty promise come true. i really felt that he was unstable and loved to be in Arab and be with them. but...he was already walked in that path of deception. :(
and Yes...i watched the movie. they chose Sweet man (Peter O'Toole) to play the character and make it tender and nice and warm.
Layal: you are right.......they always polish any character whatever was good or bad. they always make all what they did is right.
Are you talking about the Balfour Declaration? Is that the "promise" you mean? It's a fascinating story how that happened...there's a great book called "A Peace to End All Peace" that describes in detail how it happened and why. All the records of the British Foreign Office are available now, so we have all the letters and communications where the officials were talking to each other about it...
You know a lot about movies, don't you, Sama? What are your favorites?
I liked Fight club/V for vendit kind of moive which have a topic to say
Do u have any suggestion for a movies like that??

Of course you can join! I'm always happy when I see you write something in English, but then when I answer, it's too late--you already are gone... :-(
Then your blog has so many comments and all in Arabic, I'm shy to say anything...
I never saw Fight Club. I did see You've Got Mail. Did you like Sleepless in Seattle?
good n interesting post... but wait!!
why do we talk always about our history n mistakes without taking actions to correct the bad results...
history is history but at the same time is lessons...
i disagree with u that we can't, can't n can't... but sure we don't want...
it's their right to save, protect n may increase their interests anywhere in the world including our region... but where is the arabian role to counter this?!!
anyway really i liked this post.. have fun
No…I meant the promise of Britain for Lord Rothschild. Maybe it's the same promise…I don't really know?. I don't have enough information about the promises that helped Zionists to get Palestine and terrorized peaceful people there and forced them to leave their lands and villages.
Looks good book Jeff…I don't know this one…..who is the writer….i might buy a copy.
Yes…all the records of French intelligence are available now too because the legal period has been passed. So, it so interesting to know and see all the records that effect important historical events of each area.
Yes…Jeff… I used to spend so much time watching movies…but now I don't watch that much. My favorite movie ever is "Brave Heart"…I can watch this movie over and over without feeling bored. I love some actresses and actors and I watch their movies such as Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, Al Pacino, Sandra Bullock, Meg Ryan…etc. Generally, I watch all kinds of movies.
But you know what….we only watch American movies while there are FANTASTIC movies. I watched years ago an Iranian movie and I cried!! Yes I cried so much…that movie touched me sooooooooo much. It's called in Arabic (Seb'3at Allah) which means (God's Creation). We should watch all movies of all countries because we are sharing one nature and same feelings and life.
Anyways, Now…I watch more animated movies…that's much fun than other real humans movies.
Layal: LOL…it's okay sweetheart…nice to hear from you too. Really…you like Fight Club…I watched it too "Yeah, for Brad Pitt…he is gorgeous and so cool, but I don't think he is good actor though…he don't convince me". I do like Meg Ryan movies...she is cute and lovely, but now she is old and recently adopted Chinese baby girl and she has a teenager boy from previous marriage.
LOL………you didn't tell me about SAMA mail before. I don't even have a SAMA name in my e-mails. I should make one.
Jeff: I watched Sleepless in Seattle and I liked it.
gmr14: Welcome Dear. You are right darling and for that I decided to review the book for you and share with you what they do and what we do. Each one seek the self-interests. I don't blame him or them…but I blame Arabs who turned to be frangible and can't even go along. It's a big shame to be like that…. Wish we are like Rothschild family…they are different…each one in different country with different language and different directions and some times they face disagreement, but when time come they gather and forget all their differences and disagreements. While, we are sharing one culture, one language, one religion and still hate each other, still stabbing in the back. I don't know what happen to us to be like that.
Hope that will change one day.
Sama i've send an e-mail to one of the bloggers under my name in e-mail (sama) & he throught the it is u. I told him it's not sama Oman
